Connecting Through Letter Writing.....
Writing Letters to Elderly Loved Ones When You Can’t Be With Them
“This is not a letter but my arms around you for a brief moment” Katherine Mansfield ( Writer)
Letter writing is a lost art for many of us who are busy going about the daily tasks of life in this hectic world…………
Therefore, this year in our TY Religion Class we are writing letters to older members of our Community ,and also elderly members of our families ,who live in other parts of the country and the world. Our class loved this idea as we believe that our elders are a very special part of our lives. We love “those who are older and wiser than us”and so wanted to do something kind and meaningful during this difficult time for all. Each student swapped the name and address of an older person and will now begin writing our letter.
We are hoping to receive a response from our “ New Friend”in the next few weeks .Our aim, through letter writing,is to form a relationship with our “new Friend” but also be a “light” for them .
We have realised that writing a letter to an elderly person can be a gift that keeps on giving. Letters to the elderly, written with affection and sincerity, are a fantastic way to keep in touch with the special people in our lives who miss us more than we realise.
We all know that a letter is a pleasant surprise when it arrives, and it can be read over again whenever your loved one is feeling lonely or isolated.
Our focus will be letters that are simple, cheerful, and sincere with words that are
optimistic and uplifting, but in particular words that will bring a smile.
Always remember what a lot we lost when we stopped writing letters. You can’t reread a phone call……………...
