Certified Irish Angus Schools Competition
Certified Irish Angus, ABP and Kepak, run the Certified Irish Angus Schools Competition which aims to encourage second-level students to gain an understanding about the care and attention that is required to produce and market the highest quality Irish Angus beef for consumers, while also inspiring students to consider the Irish agri-food industry as a valuable career choice.
Congratulations to last years Transition Year students, Niamh O Sullivan, Lucy Kirby, Ciara O Driscoll, Ellen O Neill and their teacher Miss O Riordan who were winners in this year’s competition . They received their five calves on Wednesday, September 18th at the National Ploughing Competition .
This exciting competition not only challenges students to rear five Irish Angus calves, over 18 months but they also have to complete a research project.
The girls from Sacred Heart will focus on 'increasing awareness of the Certified Irish Angus brand' as their research project. They will highlight how the Angus breed helps to increase the reproductive efficiency of a farm.
They will also create an educational tool to inform consumers featuring their mascot, 'Éire the Angus'.
It is interesting to note that TY sudents Laura Clancy won this competition , with their teacher Ms Hennessy when this competition was introduced for the first time 10 years ago.
Congratulations to all. We look forward to hearing all about the names the calves will be given.
