This year  Ruby Edmead ,Sinéad  O Donovan and I entered BT Young Scientist. Our project was titled “A Case for the Statutory Labelling of Carbon Footprint on Food”. We weren’t expecting to get in at all because we only wrote up our project 2 days before. However, on the 22nd of October we got an email saying that we had got into the final in the RDS. To be honest we left everything a bit last minute and met up a lot over the Christmas holidays to get it done.

On the 8th of January ,2020, we set off from the Community College at 6am. We arrived at the R.D.S at around 11 and set up our stand with the poster  and labels we made .Then at 2 the opening ceremony began . At the ceremony the presenters introduced themselves, some “fancy professor'' last year’s winner gave a speech. After the ceremony we went back to our stand while the special guests walked  around, making observations of each stand and talked to the students. Local T.Ds from the South West constituency ,such as Margaret Murphy and Michael Collins ,visited our stand ,talked to us and photographs were taken.

Later in the evening we went to our hotel in Sandymount and checked in and had food. Then we went to the organised events for the students at around half 8 which was a disco. It was over at 10 and we walked back to the hotel.

The following day was the first day it was open to schools and the public and the first round of judging began. The interactive area was open and we got loads of freebies. That night we went to Dundrum and did some shopping and got food. The next day was the day they announced the winners. There was a really long boring ceremony that ended at around 7. We then got food and went to the karaoke for the students which was great craic. The next day was the last day that was just open to the public and at 4 we left for Clon. BT Young Scientist was the highlight of TY for me .I loved every second of it.Thanks to all who helped and supported us during this experience.
