Last Tuesday, Chloe & Aine from the team travelled to U.C.C to attend a training day for the Psych Slam competition in February. Many schools in Cork were represented on the day. As the day began, the competition was explained in detail. The group of approximately 120 students were given a diverse list of 35 topics to choose from as the bases of their Psychology project. Within each group, 5 preferred topics were chosen .
After much discussion between competition co ordinators each group were given their final topic. The topic which we were given on behalf of the group is- ‘Does your neighbourhood affect your Physical and Mental health’. After lunch, each group was given a ‘Buddy School’ to keep in contact and discuss their topics with throughout the coming months. Clonakilty’s Buddy School is Colaiste na Toirbhirte, Presentation Secondaty School,Bandon.
Students must research their topic and give a Pecha Kucha style presentation to the judges and other competitors on the day of the competition.A Pecha Kucha style presentation consists of 20 slides that are 20 seconds long and each presentation must follow these guidelines. The competition takes place in U.C.C. on February 28th 2018. We are looking forward to this event. However, there is a lot of research to be carried out in the mean time. We are looking forward to the challenge ahead.
