SHSS Rome Trip 2023 - Day 1

What a day!

So, we left Clonakilty at 11pm last night (seems like years ago), drove to Dublin and arrived in Rome around 10.30am local time. We saw the Alps as we flew down the leg of Italy.

The sun was shining and after a slight delay with the buses, we arrived in the Vatican. The museums were amazing. Overwhelming, in fact. Priceless art, tapestries and sculptures. The Sistine Chapel frescoes. A giant pine cone in the garden. Then we went to St Peter’s Basilica and saw the Pieta. It was so lovely.

Mr Pegler and Ms Bell went to the Irish embassy to meet past pupil, Frances Collins, who is now the Ambassador of the Holy See. Everyone else had gelato in the sunshine.

Back to the hotel and then some pasta and chicken in a local ristorante.

Best group name so far: The Peglerinis

Yummiest food so far: The cannelloni in Papa Rex. Delish.

Most beautiful statue: The Pieta.

Coolest moment: Meeting Frances Collins in person at the embassy.

Longest tour: The Vatican.

Can’t wait for tomorrow!
