Cork FET Life Sciences Centre Visit Tuesday 14th

As part of their Guidance Curriculum and as part of Science Week 2023, some of our Senior Science Students visited the Cork Further Education and Training Life Sciences centre in Carrigaline today.

They were given career talks in relation to the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Industry. The objective being to grow awareness and improve perceptions of what people working in STEM do and what skills they use/require thus enabling our students to make informed choices regarding subjects and career paths.

The students were taken on a tour of the facility, showing the pharma and biotech processes and were able partake in some of those processes themselves. They also were shown how to garb correctly going into a process area and all of girls got a chance to try out and experience what it was like to wear these protective clothing.

Laura from Hovione Pharmaceutical give us a very interesting overview of what to work in this industrial is like. Laura works in Quality Control department and outlined what a typical working day as a Quality Analyst
looks like, and the opportunities to travel in her role.
She also outlined her journey from school to where she is now and how she had tried different courses before doing the apprenticeship in Cork FET.
Many thanks to Cork FET life sciences center for hosting us and giving our students such invaluable experiences and information to help them in their educational choices after secondary school. #shss #aschoolforall #choosewell #scienceweek2023 #stem
