SHSS Paris Trip 2022 - Day 2
Vive la France!
What an amazing day! We packed in as much as we could. After an early start (and a breakfast of viennoiserie and eggs that took FOREVER to cook), we headed off to Montmartre. The bus dropped us near the Moulin Rouge. We met our guides and headed up the hill towards Place du Tertre. We saw Le Moulin de la Galette and lots of other arty things, before we reached Sacré Coeur, the basilica perched on top.
Then, it was off to the Ile de la Cité where we saw Notre Dame de Paris. It was looking well, all things considered. After that we walked down to the Louvre and saw the famous palace and glass pyramid. Then, we headed through Tuileries to the Place de la Concorde. Our bus picked us up and we headed for Pont de l’Alma.
The Seine cruise was so lovely! The sun was shining and we saw the Eiffel Tower perfectly. We passed all the famous buildings and circumnavigated the Ile de la Cité.
The last stop was Val d’Europe, a huge shopping centre out by Disneyland. It was massive!
Highlights of the day:
The buzz around Montmartre. People sitting outside cafés, having coffee. The man playing ‘La Vie En Rose’ on his accordion. The painters on the streets with their easels. The little train.
Mr Browne’s back flip outside the Louvre. Tomorrow the competition will be mighty as Aisling Dooley is going to see his back flip and raise him another.
The macarons from Ladurée. Ms Bell ate two in a row straight from the box. Pistachio and caramel.
Ms Meade, Ms O’Regan and Ms Bell singing Frere Jacques on the boat. Such talent.
The shops in Val d’Europe. Unreal! There was even an aquarium!
