Daffodil Day at SHSS!

Well done to the fifth year and Transition Year students who were the coordinating fundraising team for this year’s Daffodil Day. The objective this year was to entice students away from screens and revive a love of reading. There was a Daffodil on Wheels Book Swap in the GPR where each year group got to peruse through lots of books donated by others and purchase one if desired. A shopping trolley was adorned with yellow, and students were encouraged to get into the trolley to have their photo taken with a book in their hands. Of course, a small donation was required for this fun experience!

There was a merchandise table set up in the Upper Social Area where the girls sold Daffodil Day merchandise: badges, water bottles, cards, tea towels and lots of other bits.

At Sacred Heart, we are passionate about reading books and urge the student body to choose titles outside of the curriculum. Reading is also linked to a sense of well being - what’s better than escaping into another world? Today’s activities opened up a conversation about books as students chatted about literature and various authors.

“Cancer is omnipresent,” said Rosemarie Sexton, Guidance Counsellor at SHSS. “We love raising money for Daffodil Day and playing our part in cancer prevention. The girls organised a meaningful way of making money and we’re very proud of them.”

The total sum raised will be known early next week. Thank you to all who donated to this worthy cause. Well done to the students and teachers involved.
