Sustainability at SHSS - Niamh McCarthy

Transition Years are currently taking part in a Sustainability module to help maintain the school grounds and to learn about how to be more sustainable in the school environment and at home. Mr Barry teaches the module which rotates to all class groups over the school year. This way, everyone gets to experience it.

Behind the school, we have the SHSS bees (over 10,000 bees!!) and TYs are clearing the area around them in preparation for a chicken coop and a polytunnel which we hope to have in the near future. The polytunnel will house all sorts of plants, fruit and vegetables, and the chickens will lay our own school eggs. We’re excited about that.

This will be a great addition to the whole school and will prove the area a greener and greater place.
