SHSS WEEKLY ROUNDUP - 14th January 2022

Happy New Year! 

Hope you had a lovely Christmas and are well rested. 

And now, a roundup of the week at SHSS.

Best news of the week: We’re half way through January already. The days are getting longer, the evenings brighter. 

Boffins of the week (1) : Eabha Egan, Sinead O’Mahony and Grace Murphy for their BT Young Scientist project on green stuff in Clonakilty Bay. (Oh, and cows burping).

Boffins of the week (2): Téa Cronin, Jane Beechinor and Alanah O’Donovan for their BT Young Scientist project on energy drinks and big bangs. 

Boffins of the week (3): Kate Llewellyn, Keri O’Donovan and Aoife Whelton for their BT Young Scientist project on beans and keeping things clean. 

Speaker of the week : Ms O’Sullivan (Junior) who gave a Wednesday Lunchtime Talk to the 6th years about surviving at college. 

College Information Fair of the week: The past pupils who came to the gym to tell the 6th years about their various college courses, life at college and give advice. Well done to Ms Sexton for organising this useful event. 

Amazing achievement of the week: Past pupil, Cara White, who was awarded the UCC Quercus Entrance Scholarship. Bravo!

Firestarters of the week: The Certified Angus girls experimenting with methane and oxygen in the lab.

Couturiers of the week: The TY Junk Kouture teams. Their designs are really taking shape. We can’t wait to see the style!

Environmentalists of the week (1): The TY Green Schools crew who went litter bug-busting around the school grounds. Let’s keep SHSS clean! 

Environmentalists of the week (2) : Mr Barry’s Sustainability class who are busy with the SHSS bees, making a chicken coop and growing stuff. 

Exciting news of the week : We’re getting two new bank holidays in 2023! We won’t say no. 

Victors of the week :  The senior hockey team who defeated St Angela’s. 

TikTok profile of the week: The new school TikTok @shssclon which will feature videos made by the TY journalists. Give it a follow.
