SHSS Alumnae Link - Míde Houlihan

Welcome to SHSS Alumnae Link!

This is where we connect with past pupils and find out what they’re up to now.

This week we linked with Míde Houlihan who graduated in 2010.

Name and position:

Míde Houlihan, Singer-songwriter/ Musician.

Lives:

Douglas, Cork.

Best memory of Sacred Heart:

A highlight would definitely be making a ‘Teacher Hug List’ on my last day, and making sure I hugged every teacher and ticked them off as I went. Not all of them enjoyed it, but I had a great time.

What were your favourite classes?

English and Music.

Tell us about your career progression to date:

I've been writing and recording as a solo artist since finishing the BTEC Music course in Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa. There's been some amazing opportunities and I've met and worked with some of my favourite people in the business. It still feels surreal at times! I'm actually getting started on a new EP this month which feels very exciting after the quiet year we've had.

If you weren’t in the job you have, what would you be doing?

Maybe juggling, I got pretty handy at it during lock down. Not sure how well it pays, but it's definitely fun!

Advice you would give your teenage self:

Laughing is definitely as important as you think it is. Also don't copy other people's homework because it's very embarrassing when you get caught out.

Favourite quote or motto?

"Life is more than the sum of it's parts" from a movie called The United States of Leland.

What is your hidden talent?

Here I bring up juggling again. I’m pretty good…

Huge thanks to Míde for taking the time to answer our questions!

See you soon for the next instalment of SHSS Alumnae Link.
