Munster Regional Session of the European Youth Parliament
Last weekend a group of TY students (Kate Finnerty, Elise Dubuisson, Hannah Rafferty, Moira Keohane, Tola Ní Shúilleabháin, Lavena Edelmann Harrington, Kate Crowley, Joya Hatchett and Méabh McWalters) and 5th years (Aideen Murphy and Katie Kiely) took part in the Munster Regional Session of the European Youth Parliament Ireland. This is a model of the proceedings of the European Parliament in which students act as the delegates. Over the weekend we worked with our different committees to draft resolutions on issues such as anti-microbial resistance, euthanasia, gender balance in the STEM field and decreasing uptake of the HPV vaccine. On Sunday the General Assembly was held. Each committee presented their resolution and the assembly had rounds of debate and speeches on it. The assembly then voted to pass or defeat the resolution. We all enjoyed the weekend immensely. ( Aideen Murphy)
