Where are they now?.................Past Pupils Section
This trip down memory lane sees Dee Forbes, Director General of RTE, recall some of her Sacred Heart memories.
During what time period did you attend Sacred Heart Secondary School?
I was a boarder from September 1979- June 1984.
What was your favourite subject in school?
Economics with Mr. Kingston.
What did you do after leaving school?
I went to UCD to study history and Politics after which I went to London to work.
Are you working /studying now? And if so where?
I moved to London straight from UCD and began a career in advertising and the media working for Young and Rubicam, Turner Broadcasting and Discovery Networks. In July 2016 I returned to Ireland to become Director General of RTE.
What was your favourite memory of Sacred Heart?
I have lots but the school play at the end of the year was always a highlight. The amazing Mrs. Nolan and her team put us through our paces and the opening night was always special.
What advice would you give your 16 year old self?
Be curious and inquisitive, grasp every opportunity and build a network of advisers, mentors and friends who will help you on your way.
If you could change something in your time in Sacred Heart, would you? And if so, what would it be?
I was in school many years ago and I know a lot has changed but I do wish in my time that we had more practical experience of the business world and work life in general.
If you could go back for 1 day, what would be the first thing you would do?
I would arrange a meeting with the TY group to hear about their year, hear their expectations for their careers and their expectations from the workplace. They will be the employees of the future and I would learn a lot.
I would also take a walk through the school and see what I remember. The new part of the school opened when I was in 2nd or 3rd year I think, so I have a lot of memories of the old and the new.
