Irish Guide Dogs
Transition Year students Aoibhe O Driscoll, Lizzie McCaughey , Sinead O Callaghan, Katie Hilliard , Ava Crowley ,and Ellie O Donovan completed an online course, for Transition Year students, organised by the Irish Guide Dogs between January 27th to January 30th .They also visited the Irish Guide Dogs Center in Ballincollig.The Irish Guide Dogs Association for the Blind believe the students who participate in their Transition Year (TY) Programme are potential future members of their community of Staff, Puppy Raisers, Temporary Boarders and Community Volunteers.
This interactive programme aims to inspire students to consider a career with the Irish Guidedogs ,or to support their work raising awareness, and funds so they too can make a difference to others ,and change lives!
At the end of the week, each student will have a greater understanding of:
the welfare of our dogs and what that entails;
the services and support we provide to our Clients;
the Technical training and what that involves;
the structure, governance, funding and running of a charity; and
how to undertake a fundraising event.
The students also were delighted to meet Soccer legend Roy Keane. Roy Keane has helped to launch Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind's national fundraising campaign Guide Dog Day which takes place this year on Friday 27 May.
