Summer Munster Rugby Program

Summer Munster Rugby Program

During the summer of 2023 Niamh Hilliard, Emmer Moroney, Leona Arra , Clodagh McCarthy and myself ,Roxanne Llewellyn were selected to participate in a Munster rugby under 17s  summer program which took place in UL Limerick, and Cork on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The training started at 10 and finished at 2, with a 1 hour gym session and 3 hour training session. This meant if the training was in Limerick we had to wake up at 6:30 in the morning to drive the 2 in a half  hour drive. We took part in a residential for a night in UL limerick campus , which gave us the real college experience, staying in the dorms and having classes in the college classrooms. During this time we truly bonded with the other players.  Throughout the program we met and made new friends from different clubs which we will see again in the season to come. It was a surreal experience playing alongside your rivals from different clubs. At the end of the program we played against a travelling American team called ‘Eira’ where we had to put our skills that we learnt over the program to the test. We came out with a victory and a final score of 17-14. We also got to chat with the American players and traded all sorts of clothing. For example, I traded my Clonakilty shorts for a Californian sevens jersey.  Overall we all enjoyed the experience and gathered valuable skills for the future.

A special shout out to Niamh Hilliard who was then again selected to continue the summer program with the under 18s.She started in the Ulster vs Munster match and came out with a victory.
