International Women's Day 2023

Today March the 8th, International Women’s Day is celebrated all around the world. International Women’s Day is used  as a focal point in the women's rights movement, raising awareness to issues including gender equality, reproductive rights, violence and abuse against women.

Today is a day dedicated to celebrating  the achievements of Women in various fields, and the roles they play ,whether that of Artist, Teacher, Politician, Scientist, Sports person ,but, in particular, that of Grandmother, Mother, Wife, Godmother, Aunt, Daughter and  Sister.

It is important to remember the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It is important to remember all  women, some that have been forgotten over the years in history, but changed the world as heroes,Women who broke boundaries around the world, but didn’t make the history books.

At Sacred Heart Secondary School we will be celebrating this important occasion on Wednesday the 15th of March. Transition Year students are working hard to make this day memorable and fun for the school community.

Throughout the day different activities related to International Women’s Day will take place. Including TYs talking and presenting about women in sport, music ,the world of  business, and of course our local community.

There will  also be the announcement of the winner of the competition “A Woman Who Inspires”.

Speeches will be given by guest speakers throughout the day. Karen Minihan, a past pupil of Sacred Heart ,a theatre director, writer and actor will be joining us to talk about , and share her wonderful achievements.

Our fellow students will be performing for us inspiring songs, written by women for women.

We hope that you will be inspired, that you will learn new things, and that most important of all you will have a great  day.

Happy International Women’s Day to all
