Sacred Heart Continues A Tradition
Sacred Heart Secondary School continues the tradition of making St Brigid Crosses. TY students ,involved in the Pope John Paul Awards, spent time today with the Junior Cycle students sharing the skill of making these crosses.
The most famous St Brigid's Day tradition is the making of these unique crosses, made from fresh rushes or reeds.. The crosses are hung in people's homes. They are hung by the door and in the rafters of homes to protect the house. It is believed they bring good luck and prevent fire and hunger of those inside.
