Highlight of Transition Year
What was the highlight of Transition Year for you? Emma Hayes
The highlight of my Transition Year was the STEPs Engineering Your Future Programme in MTU. The course ran from Monday the 16th to Wednesday the 17th of May. On Monday we took part in the marshmallow challenge and used virtual reality headsets. We also had a talk on biomedical and mechanical engineering . We even got to see different types of 3D printed knee replacement prototypes. We did experiments in the evening when we tested for the conductivity of water and separated coloured liquids and gases.
On Tuesday, we had a talk on construction and completed the brick challenge. We also received talks about engineering in sports in the gym where the Munster rugby team used to train. In the afternoon, we completed a physics escape room online.
On Wednesday, we got to meet some of the MTU students and then we saw some of the projects that the erasmus students had been working on. I
really enjoyed my time at MTU as I got to meet new people and make new friends. I had almost crossed engineering off as an option as I was so certain I wanted to do Computer Science but now I think I would like to study Mechanical Engineering at MTU.
