TY Lenten Gathering for Hunger and Peace

Today, Wednesday March 30th TY students gathered together to commemorate and pray for the amazing organisation Trócaire. The Trócaire box has been a familiar feature during Lent in Ireland for the last 49 years and this year’s Lenten appeal focuses on Zimbabwe, and the devastating impact Covid-19  climate change, and and a devastated economy , have had on the East African country.

The main message of our Lenten Gathering is contained in the following lines.

Every woman, man and child is born equal. We are born with the right to a dignified life, free from injustice. Poverty is more than the absence of material goods. Poverty can be the absence of opportunity, a lack of power, a lack of voice and a lack of control over one’s life. Trócaire works with people whose human rights are denied. They live in fear of those in power. Courage, Hope and Strength is needed This Lent, we hear about how communities who were already facing huge challenges of drought, food shortages, access to education and peoples livelihoods caused by climate change, were further impacted by Covid-19. This is seen in how Covid-19 impacted people’s livelihoods and access to education and food security. Last year Trócaire brought support and relief to 2.5 million people living in poverty, conflict and injustice. Trócaire is the Irish language word for “compassion”.

Thanks to all who participated during this Gathering ,and to Ms Hayes ,and all musicians who provided wonderful music and song.
