Work Experience , Collins Barracks, Cork
Deirdre Calnan and I went on our work experience week to Collins Barracks in Cork. between November 14th and 18th. This week was a great experience as I got to experience what goes on when you join the army. On Monday and Tuesday we did activities like contact drills, crawling and the army fitness test that you have to do when you join the defence forces. On Wednesday and Thursday we got the opportunity to go to Fort Davis and Kilworth, which are both used by the defence forces for training. In Fort Davis we went through drills like carrying dummies and taking cover from contact. On Thursday in Kilworth we got to use camo paint and wear vests while we got into teams and had to make our way to a grenade tower without being spotted using everything we’ve learnt throughout the week. This was my favourite part as it was great fun in our teams. Finally ,on Friday we did another team activity as we put together everything we had learnt all week. This week in the defence forces was a great experience for me as I learnt way more about what the defence forces do.I thoroughly enjoyed the week.
