"Oliver the Movie"
The Transition Year students began Mid Term break today Friday, October 28th, by dressing up in a variety of costumes as Halloween approaches. They were also treated to a movie afternoon viewing the classic 1968 Movie“Oliver”, the stage version which they will perform in here at Sacred Heart in November. As can be seen from the photos below, not only did the students have a great day, but “Granny J” had a ball, and was so delighted with the youthful buzz that surrounded her .
Sir Carol Reed's "Oliver!" is a treasure of a movie. It is one of those rare films like "The Wizard of Oz " that appeals in many ways to all sorts of people. It is immediately exciting to all children, because of the story and the unforgettable Dickens characters. Adults also enjoy it because of the sweep and zest of its production. And as a work of popular art, it is great that it has stood the test of time.
In this 1968 award-winning adaptation of the Broadway musical, based on the Charles Dickens novel, 9-year-old orphan Oliver Twist (Mark Lester) falls in with a group of street-urchin pickpockets led by the Artful Dodger (Jack Wild) and masterminded by the criminal Fagin (Ron Moody). When Oliver's intended mark, Mr. Brownlow (Joseph O'Conor), takes pity on the lad and offers him a home, Fagin's henchman Bill Sikes (Oliver Reed) plots to kidnap the boy to keep him from talking.
