Clonakilty Comes Alive to the Sound of TY students in Search of Sleeping Animals
Monday , May 17th , was a historic day for the town of Clonakilty, and for towns and cities all over the country. Doors were opened to the public by many retail outlets ,as more restrictions imposed, because of Covid 19, were lifted. In addition, some of our Transition Year students enjoyed a taste of the History of the town ,by mapping and tracing as many of the colourful animals that have made Clonakilty their home since 2012.
'Jungle City' is a large scale outdoor art exhibition that has see 30 brightly painted, life sized animal sculptures installed in every nook and cranny around our beautiful town.Scores of beautiful animals , all of them endangered, have transformed Clonakilty into a jungle.
Park benches, fountains, pavements have become become perches, watering holes, hunting and grazing grounds for these wonderful creatures. This morning, these creatures were awoken once again by the excitment of people coming to do some retail therapy, and of course by the 4.2 Ty Class who arrived looking to find these animals rested and safe after their winter’s rest.
Today students found Hornbills perched on lamp posts, by stealthy tigers stalking locals, and Spiller’s Lane , once again , shaking under the weight of stampeding elephants!
