Concern Debating
Well done to our Concern Debating Team who competed in their first debate against St. Augustine's College
Dungarvan, Co Waterford.The girls opposed the motion that “School Strikes are an effective way of getting governments to act on Climate Change”.
The Concern Debates have been an important and fun part of the school curriculum for more than 30 years. Concern Debates is an educational debating programme aimed at both Primary and Secondary school students.The Concern Debates aims at introducing topics of development to both students and teachers through the motions to engage students in public speaking and higher order thinking skills around topics such as Climate Change, Poverty and Sustainable Development. Concern are on hand to provide support to teachers and students.
The Girls on this year’s team included: Captain : Claire Foyle, Speaker No 2 Niamh Dineen, Speaker no 3 Rhiannon Finney and Speaker No 4 Sinead O Mahony. The girls opposed a very challenging, yet topical motion :” Two other valuable members of the team are Aina Prat Gutierrez and Leah Murphy. Well done girls for the very informative debate you presented.
The girls made history in being part of this debate , as it was the first live debate (via zoom) which our school has been part of in two years. We look forward to our next debate.
