Lights, Camera, Action! Screen Careers for TY Students Programme
Well done to Sacred Heart students, Noa Martín de La Peña, Ebube Ogwudiegwu, Chloe Galwey and Katherine O’ Donovan, who recently completed the Atticus Education UCC Screen Careers Programme with Lord David Puttnam. Only five schools in Munster were selected for this exciting programme which enables TY students to discover careers in Ireland’s screen industry.
Led by their teacher, William Browne, the students attended six online seminars over two weeks, exploring areas such as the process of filmmaking, creativity and resilience, music in film and the future of film. During these seminars Lord Puttnam also spoke about the many pathways into the film industry from acting to directing, to accounting and even transport. Hearing this has instilled more confidence in students to pursue a career in film, drama and theatre by challenging the stereotype that “a living can not be made from the arts”.
On Thursday 10th April, the students had the opportunity to attend the Screen Careers Event at UCC where they had the opportunity to meet David Puttnam in person as well as many other inspirational figures in film such as Colman Farrell from Screen Ireland and Édaín O’ Donnell from West Cork Film Studios. This was an inspirational experience for the students at Sacred Heart and we would like to thank David Puttnam, Atticus Education and UCC for this amazing opportunity.
