Safer Internet Day 2024

Safer Internet Day is just around the corner!

There is still time to join thousands of other people in Ireland by getting involved in the #SID2024 celebrations on Tuesday, February 6th!

Join the live-stream of the Safer Internet Day "Tech in Our World" event or use the free Webwise resources!

Check out some of the great activities taking place for #SID2024.

Event 1:

What do young people think of new and emerging technology? Schools are invited to tune in to the Safer Internet Day 2024: Tech in our World event live-stream on February 6th at 11am.

This event will explore young people’s views on new and emerging technology, and the changes they would like to see online, and it will be live-streamed for students and teachers to view and participate in.

Hosted by Claire Brock (Virgin Media) the event will feature contributions from the Webwise Youth Advisory Panel, Online Safety Commissioner; Niamh Hodnett, National Technology Officer; Microsoft – Kieran McCorry and Dr Emma Murphy; School of Computer Science – TU Dublin.

Complementary discussions will explore some of the opportunities and challenges as they relate to the role of the internet in young people’s lives.

Event 2:

For Safer Internet Day 2024, Webwise will be hosting three FREE online safety webinars for parents of younger children, and for parents of teens. 
 

Supporting Children Online - February 7th @ 7pm

Webwise in partnership with the National Parents Council are delighted to organise an Online Safety Webinar for parents of young children. The webinar will discuss the opportunities and risks for children online, offer practical advice to support parents and answer some frequently asked questions. The Apple team will also provide a short explainer on Parental controls and some key safety features.

This webinar will take place on Wednesday, February 7th at 7pm.

Event 3:

Supporting Teens Online - February 13th @ 7pm

Webwise; the Irish internet safety awareness centre is delighted to host the Talk, Listen, Learn Online Safety Webinar for parents/guardians of teens. 

The webinar will explore the opportunities and risks for children online, offer practical advice to support parents, highlight key resources/supports and answer some frequently asked questions. The TikTok Safety team will also provide a short explainer on how TikTok works and some key safety features.

This webinar will take place on Tuesday, February 13th at 7pm.

Event 4:

Supporting Teens Online - February 19th @ 7pm

Webwise; the Irish internet safety awareness centre is delighted to host an online safety webinar for parents/guardians. The webinar will explore the opportunities and risks for children online, offer practical advice to support parents, highlight key resources/supports and answer some frequently asked questions.The Snapchat Safety team will also provide a short explainer on how Snapchat works and some key safety features.
