SHSS Spotlight - Clodagh McCarthy
TY journalist, Gemma Deasy, caught up with 3rd year sports star, Clodagh McCarthy. Here’s what she ahd to say…
Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hi I’m Clodagh McCarthy, I’m 15 years old, I’m in 3rd year in Sacred Heart. At the moment I am training for the Munster 7’s Interpros.
What sports do you play?
I play rugby, camogie, football and hockey.
When did you start playing sport?
I started playing rugby when I was really young, I’d say around 4 years old and then the others when I was in 1st-2nd class.
What do you like about playing sport?
I really like playing sport because you can relax a bit and if you’ve had a stressful day in school or whatever you can go out and kind of let all your anger or stress out on the pitch.
How many times a week do you train?
I train 6 nights a week between the different sports and have matches at the weekend, somedays double up.
Greatest sporting achievements?
So for rugby, probably my first cap on the Munster 7s team or winning the u16 A cup against Shannon. Football was probably winning the West Cork Divisional County. Camogie was the back to back U15 Carbery and U16 County wins. That was a double weekend so that was really nice and for Hockey probably winning the South Munster Schools.
Who is your sporting idol/hero?
My sporting idol would be Brian O’Driscoll. He was the captain of the Leinster team, Irish team and Lions team for rugby and since I play the same position as him, I find him really inspiring.
Thanks to Gemma and Clodagh for this interesting chat. See you soon for the next SHSS Spotlight!
