2nd Year CSPE Trip

Class 2A went as part of their CSPE investigation to The Hollies Ecovillage in Enniskeane on Wednesday 3rd May.

There was so much to learn!

They discussed the basics of building a Cob House from mud and the reasons why it is a more sustainable option. The students got the chance to make a model pizza oven from scratch including shovelling the clay and making a sand mould. The mixing was very mucky but loads of fun.

They saw how the community grows their own food for eating but also to sell at markets. They heard about and used compost toilets!

There was a nature walk that turned into a buffet as they found out about edible plants and foraging. They even learned how to eat raw nettles without getting stung! Thomas the guide finished the day with a lesson on conflict resolution as a very effective communication strategy and explain a little about peer mediation to empower students to solve issues without an adult.

All in all a very informative and active day and they have loads to discuss in class next week.
