Awards Ceremony 2023

Sacred Heart’s annual celebration of students’ achievements took place last Friday in the GPR. Organised by Ms Meade and the Student Council, the ceremony took place after lunch to an audience of parents, past pupils, 5th and 3rd year students.

Ciara Brady, 6th year Student Council representative, gave the opening address, followed by a musical interlude by 5th and 6th year Music students. Chairperson of the Board of Management, Mr Sean Crowley, spoke, followed by Ms Meade. The Grupa Cheoil played numerous songs, and Kate Whelton treated us to The Jocelyn Tree and the Wishing Well Jigs as a musical interlude.

The award recipients are as follows:

Leaving Cert Applied Award: Sarah Murphy and Nicole White, presented by Ms Holland.

Niamh Coughlan Memorial Award: Nadia Walton, presented by Ms Claire O’Donovan.

Visual Art Creativity Award: Priscilla Boahen, presented by Ms. O’Connell.

An Duais Award: Claire Foyle and Niamh Dinneen, presented by Ms Harte.

Leaving Cert Award: Sinead O’Donovan, Ruth Shanley, Isobel Crowley, Caoimhe Dowling, and Hannah Cunningham, presented by Ms. O’Flynn.

Pauline Cullinane-Hicks Award: Kate Whelton, presented by Ms Meade.

Sr Eilis McGrath Award: Eimear O’Brien, presented by Mr Browne.

Junior Cycle Award: Orla Ryan, presented by Ms Keane.

Sr Benedicta Barry Award: Anne Ngwenya, presented by Ms Harte.

Geraldine Cullinane Bursary Award: Rachel Bevan, presented by Ms Holland.

Eileen Nolan Musical Theatre Award: Aoibhe Daly, presented by Ms O’Regan.

Gaisce Award: TY Gaisce students, presented by Mr Pegler.

The keynote speaker at the event was past pupil and Irish rugby star, Laura Guest, who gave an inspiring speech to the assembled crowd. She told the stduents that ‘once you give your all, you’ve already achieved success’ and ‘grades will never define you, you are so much more than a number on a page..’

Wise words indeed.

Ms Brosnan ended the ceremony, thanking the musicians, Laura Guest, Ms Meade and the Student Council for making this day so special.
