SHSS Spotlight - Ava Lane

Welcome to SHSS Spotlight! This is where the TY journalists catch up with studnets that ahve done remarkable things.

Sadhbh Frank caught up with Ava Lane who is a champion Irish dancer.

When did you start Irish dancing?

I started Irish dancing in Rosscarbery when I was 7, and later moved to train in Carrigaline when I got to a certain level.

What are the benefits?

The physical aspects are one that will benefit me beyond my Irish dancing career. My Irish dancing teacher is also a mind coach. She prepares us for the competition season and these lessons can also be applied to my school life. I have also travelled the world including countries such as Russia, Spain, Germany, France, England, Scotland and I’ve been in every county in Ireland.

What is your greatest achievement to date ?

My biggest achievement today is winning 2 All Ireland titles in one day with both my girls’ team and mixed team.

Who inspires you in the Irish dancing community?

Within the dancing community there are many figures who inspire me. An example would be Amy Mae Dolan who has many titles under her belt and is now the lead of Riverdance. There are many others with different styles and techniques. These all inspire me in different ways.

Thanks to Sadhbh for leading the interview!
