1st Year Camogie blitz

The first year camogie team had their inaugural outing for the school today when they took on Coachford in Ahamilla. 44 girls from Ballinascarthy, Barryroe, Clonakilty and Kilbree made up the travelling contingent. Two competitive games followed in tough underfoot conditions with the spoils being shared following a victory by each respective school. There was some excellent skills on display and it bodes well for the girls future sporting endeavours here at SHSS.

TY GAA Leadership student Jill Mc Carthy also provided a short write up about one of the team’s playing today.

The white jersey SHSS team took on Coachford today in Ahamilla. The girls put in a fantastic team effort throughout the match. The scoreboard started with a point from Clara Cashman. There was great pressure from the backs all the way up to the corner forwards. A point came from Ellen Foley, followed by a cracker of a goal batted into the top corner to give SHSS a great lead going into half time. There was great defensive work throughout the match.  In the second half goals came from Maisie Lyons, Maya Manning Montero and 2 goals from Ellen Foley, one from a 45. Another point from Clara Cashman and SHSS secured the win 5-3 to 5-1.
