SHSS Alumnae Link - Meadhbh Coomey
Welcome to SHSS Alumnae Link!
This is where we connect with past pupils and find out what they’re up to now.
This week we linked with Meadbh Coomey who graduated in 2019.
Name and position:
Meadhbh Coomey, 3rd year Pharmaceutical and Industrial Chemistry student at UL.
Lives:
Cork / Limerick
Best memory of Sacred Heart:
In Ms. O’Neill’s third year Home Ec, myself and a few friends hid egg timers all around the classroom and coordinated them to set off within a few minutes of each other during class. Looking around at each other and trying not to laugh is a brilliant memory!
What were your favourite classes?
English with Ms. Nash and Irish with Ms. O’Donovan .
Tell us about your career progression to date:
I’m currently completing an eight month work placement in the small molecules laboratory at Eli Lilly in Kinsale. We investigate why a process on the large scale may have failed, and recreate the process as a small-scale experiment in the lab to try and come up with a solution. It’s really cool!
If you weren’t in the job you have, what would you be doing?
If I could sing (at all) I think I would definitely have tried music!
Advice you would give your teenage self:
Live laugh love
Favourite quote or motto?
“Though we live in a world that dreams of ending, that always seems about to give in, something that will not acknowledge conclusion insists that we forever begin.”
We studied Brendan Kennelly’s poetry for leaving cert English and his poem ‘Begin’ was my favourite then and still is now, especially this line.
What is your hidden talent?
I can do a headstand for five or six minutes!
Huge thanks to Meadhbh for taking the time to answer our questions.
See you soon for the next instalment of SHSS Alumnae Link!
