Stand Up Awareness Week at SHSS

Last week, Sacred Heart celebrated Stand Up Awareness Week 2022. Belong To’s Stand Up Awareness Week is a time for post-primary schools, youth services, and Youthreach in Ireland to take a stand against homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying. It is an opportunity to take steps to make spaces safe and supportive for LGBTQ+ young people.

Here at SHSS we raised a Pride flag outside the main door, alongside the tricolour. 3rd year students distributed Pride pins they made themselves to the school community. There was an acknowledgement over the intercom of Stand Up Awareness Week each day before the final bell, playing music by well-known LGBTQ+ artists. Ms O Neill’s 1st years made a special cheesecake in honour of Stand Up Week. Colourful posters were put all around the school, all with the same message: Everyone is welcome at Sacred Heart.

Be proud of yourself.
