LCA Trip To Faxbridge Veterinary Hospital

Ms Crowley and the Leaving Cert Applied students visited Faxbridge Vet Hospital yesterday.

Dr Megan Kenny gave them a tour of the facility which includes a fully operational surgical unit, ICU and day unit for small animals that are sick. Megan was basically wearing a small dog named Blake, who was a medical boarder in the hospital. Blake has diabetes and severe anxiety, and is more comfortable and therefore healthier when he is with people, so staff members take their turns holding him when they can.

Megan discussed what happens in a medical emergency and how the team responds, how important good communication skills are in her job, and what the team at Faxbridge looks for in a Veterinary Nurse.

The students also met Sorcha, a past pupil of SHSS, who is training to become a veterinary nurse. Sorcha told the girls what the minimum requirements for entry into the course are and career options.
