SHSS Alumnae Link - Natasha Sutton

Welcome to SHSS Alumnae Link!

This is where we connect with past pupils and find out what they’re up to now.

This week we linked with Natasha Sutton who graduated in 2019.

Name and position:

Natasha Sutton, Law Student at UCC.

Lives:

Clonakilty, Cork.

Best memory of Sacred Heart:

I have loads of great memories from my time in Sacred Heart, some of which are simply sitting in one of the classrooms having a laugh. I absolutely loved Transition Year, particularly taking part in the Concern Debates Competition.

I also really enjoyed the History and Geography trips to Northern Ireland and the Ancient East.

What were your favourite classes?

I loved History and Business. I also loved Economics with Ms. Hennessy, particularly the Current Affairs aspects. These subjects really aided me when I started my course as each of them could be used in various different ways, particularly when giving your opinions on an issue and putting your own twist on things.

Tell us about your career progression to date:

I just finished second year of my four year degree. In September, I will hopefully, (Covid-dependent), be going on placement with a law firm which will be a great insight into the practical side of law. My degree is quite general and broad which means I have lots of scope to focus on modules such as Family Law and International Human Rights Law which I really enjoy.

If you weren’t in the job you have, what would you be doing?

I have a huge interest in international development so would consider doing something in that field, particularly in relation to gender inequality or human rights. I would also, hopefully, incorporate a travel element into the job if I was to go down that road!

Advice you would give your teenage self:

Focus, but have fun – while the Leaving Cert is important, it is equally important to enjoy your school days as they go by so fast, you wouldn’t believe it! Cherish every moment! There will be days when you may be waiting for the bell to ring, but it’s afterwards, when you look back, that you realise that they were the good days.

Favourite quote or motto?

‘What’s for you, won’t pass you’

If you really want something, it will not pass you by. It may not happen tomorrow or even the day after, but it will happen.

What is your hidden talent?

I can name all the countries of the world in alphabetical order.

(Well, I could, I can’t anymore!)

Huge thanks to Natasha for taking the time to answer our questions!

See you soon for the next instalment of SHSS Alumnae LInk.
