BT Young Scientist Competition 2022

Well done to Ms Holland’s TY students who have been selected to compete in the Virtual Finals of the BT Young Scientist Competition 2022. They are three of the 550 selected projects from over 1400 applications.

Below is a brief summary of their projects:

"Would you like to go out with a bang?" by Jane Beechinor, Alannah O'Donovan and Tea Cronin.

They will be investigating the effects of energy drinks on body temperature, blood pressure and heart rate.

"Can Clonakilty bay clean itself and also reduce methane emissions from cattle?" by Eabha Egan, Sinead O'Mahony and Grace Murphy.

They will investigate if the growth of seaweed (asparagopsis armata) can both improve the water quality in Clonakilty bay and simultaneously help reduce greenhouse gases in the local environment.

"Keep Clean, Replace the Bean" by Kate Llewellyn, Aoife Whelton and Keri O'Donovan.
They will investigate the environmental benefits of replacing soya bean meal with native biorefinery protein concentrate as an alternative feed for monogastric animals.

Best of luck, girls!
