SHSS Alumnae Link - Amy Hayes
Welcome to SHSS Alumnae Link!
This is where we connect with past pupils and find out what they’re up to now.
This week we linked with Amy Hayes who graduated in 2011.
Name and position:
Amy Hayes - Physiotherapist
Lives:
Sydney, Australia
Best memory of Sacred Heart:
I don’t think you could beat sunbathing and laughing with the girls out the back of the prefabs!
Transition year was a huge highlight, from Cappanalea to Irish College - such a great year!
What were your favourite classes?
I think I would have to say Maths or Accounting! Although I think we all loved the baking days in Home Economics when we got to eat all of the treats.
Tell us about your career progression to date:
After the best four years in UL, I started my career as a physiotherapist in University Hospital Limerick, rotating around different areas of physiotherapy. I worked there for two and a half years before moving to Australia.
Since moving to Australia I have primarily worked in the rehabilitation sector of physiotherapy and I’m loving it!
If you weren’t in the job you have, what would you be doing?
Hard to say - I really enjoy working with people so hopefully a career that reflects that. I did almost end up in the accounting world which is very different from what I do now!
Advice you would give your teenage self:
Feel the fear and do it anyway. Don’t be afraid to try something new and get out of your comfort zone.
Favourite quote or motto?
I wouldn’t say I have a favourite quote or motto but if I had to pick the following seems like a good one!
“Laughter is the best medicine”
What is your hidden talent?
An Aperol Spritz connoisseur. I also have an uncanny ability to sleep anytime anywhere!
Huge thanks to Amy for taking the time to answer our questions!
See you soon for the next instalment of SHSS Alumnae Link.
