Promoting Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths
On Thursday January 30th, 40 transition year students attended the iWish conference in Cork City Hall. The purpose of the conference was to encourage women into STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology and Maths) industries. The afternoon began with numerous women working in STEM industries telling us about their careers. This included Fiona Lynch of Johnson & Johnson, and Caroline Holland, a past pupil of Sacred Heart who works in packaging with Pepsico. Following these talks, we had the opportunity to visit various stalls set up by colleges such as UCC and companies such as Musgrave, Irish Water, Stryker, Dassault Systems and many more. Overall it was both an informative and enjoyable experience.
