History/Geography tour visit Newgrange!

Day 2 of the Geography and History tour started at Newgrange in Co. Meath.
The students received a guided tour of this ancient passage tomb which predates Stonehenge and the Pyramids of Giza!
The stunning Boyne Valley, dotted with standing stones, looked vibrant and green under the cloudless sky. The students got to enter the tomb, through the passage and see the inside of the sacred chamber within. The girls were fascinated by the spiral art carved into the stones. The tour guide then re-enacted what happens during the solstice using artificial light. Many of the students said that they found the whole experience incredibly moving.
The trip to Newgrange was a huge success (except when poor Mr Mulcahy hit his head on the way out of the tomb!)
