TY Fundraiser A Success!
Transition Year students organised a bake sale today at lunchtime to raise funds for their upcoming performance of ‘Romeo and Juliet’. Students brought in delicious cakes ranging from brownies to cupcakes. All the cakes were wrapped individually, in adherence to Covid guidelines. Hand sanitiser was on the table for customers and Ms Bell ensured that social distancing was respected in the gym. Ms Harte supervised upstairs where excited students waited for treats from the Home Ec room. Mr Daly was also around, making sure that all was well.
Aoibhe Daly, the director of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ , recognises the difficulty of running such a fundraiser during these unprecedented times.
‘It was definitely challenging,’ she said. ‘Health and safety was our top priority today. We want to thank Ms Bell, Mr Daly and Ms Harte for helping out and supervising the students.’
The much anticipated TY performance of Shakespeare’s famous play will be in December. It will be recorded and shared virtually for all to enjoy. Third year students, who are all studying this play, will hopefully get to see it live - but in small socially distanced groups.
‘It will very much be a 2020 take on the play,’ says Aoibhe. ‘Romeo and Juliet will be masked and a metre apart. However, we are thoroughly enjoying the experience and we want to thank everyone who contributed today.’
