Senior Camogie Team open Munster A campaign with a win!
Sacred Heart secondary school’s senior camogie team travelled to Mallow on Wednesday the 18th of August to play Borrisokane from north Tipperary in the Munster Senior A championship.
Claire Kingston went in for the toss as captain and the game swiftly started with Hannah Sexton and Katelyn Dineen in midfield. 5 minutes in Anna Flynn in full forward scored a goal to put Clon ahead. It was clear from the word go that it was going to be a tight match. However Clonakilty were clearly the better team with excellent scores from Hannah Sexton, Caoimhe Murphy and Anna Flynn. Clonakilty’s back line kept things tight with Borrisokane only scoring 4 points in the first half. Before halftime Hannah Sexton ran in with the ball and passed it off to Anna Flynn who scored another goal. The ref blew up halftime leaving the score at 2.4 to 4 points , with the Clonakilty students ahead. The second half of the match was even more competitive and evenly matched than the first , but goalie Sinead McCarthy cleared any sign of goal and our full backs Grace Tobin, Emma O’ Driscoll and Annie Condon kept up good pressure. Clonakiltys Katelyn Dineen scored two excellent points and Daire O’Brien scored a point from a free. The hot conditions made playing conditions challenging, but Sacred Heart pulled through with the final score of 2.7 to four points.
