Junior Team overcome Mount Hawk Tralee in Munster 1/4 finals

Sacred Hearts junior footballers made the journey to the splendidly appointed Ballyvourney for the quarter final of the Munster Championship today and following a titanic struggle and against all the odds came home victorious.

Mercy Mounthawk from Tralee provided the opposition and from the start shows they were a force to be reckoned with racing into a 5 point lead 1-2 to no score. Shss started to get a grip on the game and score from Millie and Eimear O Brien narrowed the gap to just the goal. The first half continued in a similar vein as the Tralee girls dominated possession and were leading by 2-3 to 1-1 on the stroke of half time. Then Millie, now operating as a lone full forward gained possession and having beaten three Mounthawk defenders, finished to the top corner to leave just three between the teams at half time.

This should have swayed the momentum towards the Clon girls but Mounthawk goaled immediately on the restart and it looked bleak for Shss when they followed this with two more points.
Teams with less character would have folded but not Sacred Heart as Orlaith Deasy rattled in two goals in a minute to put the Clon girls in touch.

Mounthawk counted with a well taken point before Millie and Eimear finished to the net to put SHSS ahead for the first time. Visibly shaken Mounthawk replied soon after with a goal of their own and once again looks in the ascendency but this Sacred Heart team are hard beaten and Síofra kicked two frees before Millie finished to the net again to open up a six point gap. The game finished in a welter if excitement with Mounthawk goaling as the time elapsed.

Sacred Heart Clonakilty ran out winners on a score line of 7-5 to 5-8.

Before the game a minutes silence was held in memory of Mr. Tom Brosnan, father to SHSS Principal Ms. Ann Marie Brosnan, May he Rest in peace .
