Junior camogie and football teams continue to impress!
The Junior camogie and football teams travelled to Ahamilla today to play a game in both codes. First off was camogie versus near neighbours Coláiste Na Toirbhrite from Bandon in the Munster Junior A Championship. A keenly contested first half saw the visitors lead by the slimmest of margins at the short whistle 0-6 0-5. Sacred Hearts scores spread between Katie O Driscoll, Millie Condon and Maeve Kingston.
The second half saw a vastly improved performance with captain Eimear O Brien thundering into the game from frees and play allied by the superb Caoimhe Murphy at midfield. Alannah O Brien, Mary Murphy and Niamh Kennedy. The game turned when an outstanding Siofra Patwell save was cleared quickly and possession transferred into the forwards by Erica Harrington where Eimear finished to the net from close range. This pushed Clon into an unassailable lead with only a few minutes remaining on the clock. Final score 1-11 0-7. Next for the camogie players is a county semi V Coláiste Choilm next Friday and Munster Championship V Coachford on the 19th.
There was a brief break for the girls before many took to the field again in the final group game of the Junior Football Munster Championship In a winner take all clash V Coláiste Pobail Bhreanntraí.
Sacred Heart, playing with the elements in the first half built up a substantial lead with Síofra Patwell, Orlaith Deasy and Aisling Moloney finding the back of the net. Katie O Driscoll dominated the midfield sector ensuring a plentiful supply of ball to the forwards. Clon continued to dominate in all sectors for the remainder of the match with the outstanding backline keeping the rare Bantry attacks at bay. Ciara Hourihane, Mary Murphy, Alannah O Brien, Kate O Brien and sub Ciardha Mc Carthy can be extremely pleased with their displays. The girls now move on to the Munster Quarter Final.
