Junior Football Team advance to Munster Semi-Finals

Sacred Heart 7-12
Spanish Point 3-05

Sacred Heart advanced to the Munster Junior football semi final following a comprehensive and well deserved victory over a gallant Spanish Point Community School at a sunny Charleville today.

Spanish point were quick out of the blocks and registered the opening score from the throw in. Clon, stung into action responded with an Aisling Moloney goal following excellent approach play by Maeve Kingston and Kate O Donovan. Siofra Patwell extended the lead with a free after Aisling Moloney had been fouled and this signalled a purple patch for the west cork school as they added further scores through Maeve Kingston (goal) Lydia Sutton (goal and a point ) and Ellen O Hea (2 points).

Spanish point launched wave after wave of attack but similar to the Spanish at the battle of Kinsale they failed to land a significant blow as Alannah O Brien, Kate Ryan and Zara Flood battened down the hatches.

The first half concluded with Aisling Moloney adding her second goal as she fisted the ball to the net following a Sinead Mc Carthy pass that took the Spanish Point defence out of the equation. Unfortunately for Clon. Kiya O Mahony received a yellow for what looked a fairly innocuous challenge, before Maeve Kingston added another major as the half time whistle sounded.

The second half began with Spanish Point making use of the extra player adding 1-2 in quick succession before the Clon rearguard shut up shop for the remainder of the sin bin period.

With their full compliment restored the Clon girls got the scoreboard moving again with Ellen O Hea and Siofra Patwell adding 2 points each and Aisling Moloney 0-1. The newly introduced Rachel Deasy added a superb goal as did Lydia Sutton as the game moved into the final quarter. Kiya O Mahony tapped over two points and set up a great Ellen O Hea score with a sublime pass.

Eabha Crowley, Lucy Mc Carthy, Ciara White, Katie Heare, Rachel Deasy, Caoimhe Murphy and Meadhbh Hodnett all did their chances of starting no harm as they were very impressive when introduced.
