SHSS Alumnae Link - Ciara Barrett
Welcome to SHSS Alumnae Link!
This is where we connect with past pupils and find out what they’re up to now.
This week we linked with Ciara Barrett who graduated in 2015.
Name and position:
Ciara Barrett, Vet.
Lives:
Currently at home in Clonakilty.
Best memory of Sacred Heart:
My best memory would have to be the spending time with the friends I made. I am lucky to still be great friends with them all. I also have great memories of the Trad Music Group with Ms. Meade.
What were your favourite classes?
Biology and chemistry were probably my favourite classes. English with Ms O’ Donoghue was another favourite. I loved Music too as it was a nice break from the academic subjects.
Tell us about your career progression to date:
Having completed my Leaving Cert in 2015, I went to UCD and studied Animal Science – Equine for a year. In 2016, I successfully got a place in Veterinary Medicine in UCD. The course is five years and involved lots of study, hard work and dedication. The course also has a huge practical element which I loved! I graduated in June 2021 and started in Faxbridge Veterinary Hospital in July 2021. In December 2021, I will begin an equine internship in Fethard Equine Hospital in Tipperary.
If you weren’t in the job you have, what would you be doing?
Most likely, something with animals. I have always loved being around them.
Advice you would give your teenage self:
Not to take life too seriously. To enjoy each day as it comes and enjoy the small wins. Surround yourself with positive people and do what you love.
Favourite quote or motto?
Success is a journey, not a destination!
What is your hidden talent?
Not sure if I have one, but I do have an amazing ability to fall asleep just about anywhere!
Huge thanks to Ciara for taking the time to answer our questions!
See you soon for the next instalment of SHSS Alumnae Link.
