The students review of Open Night 2010
The time came around again…for the chairs to be laid out in the GPR, slideshows to be set up and each department to show what their subject is all about, it was the annual Sacred Heart Secondary School open night. On the lead up to this event, our Principal Ms Brosnan, Deputy Mr Walsh and first year Year Head Mrs O Donovan have had meetings preparing for this event in which parents of girls from the catchment area visit the school and its facilities to see if they would like their daughter to attend the school the following September. This is a great opportunity for the public to have an extensive tour of the school and get to see how the school is operated. On this night, January 21st 2010 the school is full of even more colour, knowledge and welcoming faces. All attending were particularly excited about the unveiling of Sacred Hearts new school uniform and the question everybody asked, will Mr Walsh have the same challenge of telling every single girl every single morning to tuck their shirt in, Hmmm? Every student involved in the open night was on their best behaviour (as always of course). The standard daily procedure was carried through, ties up shirts in and skirts down… it’s just easier. I remember being in 6th Class and attending the open night, I was terrified before even entering the school because for one thing, I was undoubtedly the smallest person there. However, when I arrived and viewed everything that was going on, all the posters and information up on the walls, I forgot about how small I was, instead I walked in and never looked back, here I am now four years later still being told to tuck in my shirt.
The student council play a vital role in the organising and completion of the night and making sure it goes very smoothly. They offer the parents and potential student’s tours of the school together with the classrooms, labs, sports grounds along with I.T and Home Economic facilities. |
